Evidence and Information

First 2 weeks I have been observing only 2 teachers. I have observed Functional SKills English and Maths with one lecturer and Performing Arts Level 2 with another one.

I have attached image of my notes.

Observation 1

First Observation was Functional Skills English, Entry 1.

Students signed to computers and practised writing. They have had different topics to choose from as lecturer has printed several texts. These were to read and used to do writing task.

Some students required support assistant and others needed lecturer's attention as were dealing with other tasks.

Lecturer's teaching practice is student led and focuses on individual's progress.

Small group discussed speaking and listening criteria to pass the assessment.

Main positive: Lecturer showed high level of differentiation with the variety of tasks and support given to students.

Main negative: Lack of motivation from students, perhaps changing the tone of the lesson, something more active would be beneficial.

Throughout very good questioning techniques as allowed plenty of space for students to think.

Observation no.2

The second observation I had that I have notes from is Level 2 Performing arts.

Very different techniques as active lesson. Students have difficulties focusing on task and listening to teacher. However, teacher was very experienced and controlled the session very well using friendly techniques that were agreed with the students beforehand.

Teacher needs to be authoritative but not too much or students would not cooperate. Most of the students have or had social problems.

Teacher constantly applies assessment for learning to check on their understanding of the lesson.
